Mata ni Pachedi Painting of Sagat Mata, Hadaksha Mata and Meldi Mata
This Mata-ni-Pachedi cloth painting narrates the stories of three fascinating Goddesses. The right side is dominated by Sagat Mata, known for her power over demonic forces, while Hadaksha Mata, the Goddess who provides protection against rabies, holds centre stage in a chariot, commandeered by one of her devotees, perhaps, and three dogs. Meldi Mata, with her vahan, the Goat, presides over the left side, keeping the evil eye at bay and protecting all who live within her realm. Mata-ni-Pachedi, an artform created by the nomadic Vaghari community of Gujarat, literally translates to "behind the Mother Goddess".Dimensions
