Handloom weaving in Karnataka's small town of Ilkal dates back to the 8th century. Ilkal sarees are distinguished by their borders, patterns and weaving techniques, unique to the cluster. The maroon cotton body of this beautiful handwoven saree is interlaced with a silk pallav which has traditional tope teni motifs. The chikki paras border is woven using rayon.
