Product Details
This tasteful and elaborate hand painted Rogan art Wall Hanging on Cotton Fabric of the Tree of Life and Flower Motif on Black base has been made by skilled artisans from Nirona Village in the Kutch district of Gujarat. An ancient and rare craft that is practiced by only one community - the Khatris - this is an invaluable work of art. Rizwan, the artist, took 20 days to craft this piece. Rogan art is a 400-year-old Kutch craft of fabric painting inspired by Persian Art. Derived from the word oil in Persian, it is made by boiling castor oil for hours till it becomes a viscous paste that is then mixed with colours. This paste is then stretched across fabric as paint threads to create intricate motifs. Usually one half is done and then the design is transferred by folding the painting neatly in the middle. The Word 'Rogan' Itself Means oil based in Persia. The young and enthusiastic artist Rizwan Khatri revived this traditional art of his family in the year 2008. His father was famous for his work with bird and animal motifs. Rizwan believes that it is more than an art but an important part of Kutch culture. He is working on innovating designs to make it more appealing to modern audience while retaining the originality of his father's legacy.
