Artisan Ananta Sarkar

Ananta Sarkar is a 49-year-old Gambhira mask artisan belonging to a farmer’s family. His father and brothers still being a farmer, Ananta works as a Gambhira artisan from the year 1990. Ananta learned this art form from traditional Gambhira artisans and now teaches other younger artisans. Ananta has two sons, and none of them wants to pursue this art-form, which sometimes worries Ananta. Ananta’s major earnings come from the art exhibitions. Getting raw materials was never a problem for Ananta, but during the COVID, he has to face some serious issues. He believes that COVID has impacted this age old craft and artisans like him.
