For centuries, ṛtús or seasons have guided the way we live. Much like the diversity that India enjoys in various aspects, it is blessed with six different ṛtús. Our traditions, behavioural patterns and evolution has been deeply influenced by them. Our forefathers would not only follow daily routines based on the prevailing ṛtú but also observe customs, festivals and rituals celebrating it.
To revisit the bond between our culture and the nature’s spirit, we conceptualised the tvami 2023 calendar with the theme: ‘Ṛtú Chakra’ - India’s annual season cycle. For this project, we collaborated with two talented Madhubani artists - Sheela Devi and Ratneshwar Jha. Based on their reminiscence of the ṛtús, the artists have thoughtfully represented each one of them through their art.
The calendar set comprises of 15 high-quality printed cards and a wooden stand to hold them. The stand has been hand-carved out of kikar wood. Each month card carries an artwork resonating with the ongoing ṛtú. The enchanting artworks are digitised representations of the ones hand-painted by Ratneshwar and Sheela. The true essence of Madhubani art has been maintained in the digital version of the paintings.
This calendar offers a blissful blend of the rich history of Madhubani art and our strong cultural values of being connected with nature. It shall certainly bring you closer to our shared roots and traditional beliefs as well as to the artists who have put their heart and soul in it. We sincerely hope you cherish this piece of art and history.
