Product Details
Red sands stretch endlessly across handmade Masland Madurkathi table mats and a singular runner, their solemnity unabashedly broken by mustard waves, dancing at the edges, with cheeky fibre grins in place. Masland Madurkathi is a traditional Bengali craft that uses locally grown grass or reeds to create mats, wall decor, table runners, and more. The reeds are collected, dried, dyed, and then woven. Dating as far back as the Mughal era in India, this time-consuming and laborious craft has been practised by the women of Bengal for centuries. Earlier, Madurkathi mats were primarily commonplace in Bengali households. Today, these mats and other Masland Madurkathi items have become premium products in various parts of the world, largely due to the hard work of the local artisans of West Bengal, and are viewed as symbols of not just culture and craft, but also sustainability.
