Coming straight from Lucknow, the city of Nawabs – these stoles carry a tinge of royalty that is rooted in the genesis of the craft. Renowned for its subtle elegance, Chikankari work has been synonymous with nobility throughout history. Though it started as a white-on-white embroidery mostly in the form of floral designs, the exquisite embroidery art picked up various colours and patterns in its journey through time. The metallic embellishments in the form of dots and circles have been done using silver plated metal wires. This traditional ornamenting technique is known as fardi ka kaam, as fardi literally means dots. It is often cross-referred as Mukaish or badla work, a similar metal embroidery technique to have flourished under the patronage of the Nawabs.
