Often judged by their contents, these versatile crafts are storytellers in their own right. Each is, one might say, a manifestation of the artisan’s hopes and aspirations. Be it the dots and lines so characteristic of Gond art, the chinar leaf or cheery vines on Kashmiri walnut

wood carvings and papier Mache craft, worshipping the divine on Ganjifa craft, or Etikoppaka that is reminiscent about simpler times, there is no denying the legacy behind each bold line or curved edge. Lives have, after all, been devoted to keeping these crafts thriving. To dismiss as merely utilitarian would, indeed, be denying history.
