Rooted in nature, yet rich in design, Aari embroidery is meant to enhance humble hand embroidered material. Typically employing beads, stones and silver gold thread, Aari embroidery designs are meant to dazzle, with lush leaves, entwining vines and even flowers, birds and animals.

Largely from North India, this minute and intricate craft has a surprisingly simple process. Complex motifs and inspiring patterns are brought to life by a pen-like needle, in between a wooden frame. In essence, Aari embroidery material, whether cotton, velvet, silk or chanderi, is the artisan’s canvas, to embellish or merely adorn with the simple cross-stitch, as fancied.
