Arguably, the sheer virtue of simple, yet forceful form has ensured Dokra Art remains resplendent, even 4,000 years later. The string

of folk motifs, such as horses, elephants, figurines, et all, has remained unbroken, since the time the dancing girl statuette, an early Dokra artifact, was uncovered in Mohenjo-Daro.

Of course, attributing the craft’s uniqueness to merely reviving the lost-wax casting technique is neither just nor accurate. The devil is in the details-on Dokra showpieces, it is the inclusion of thin, twisted brass wires that carve out the shapes so well recognized and loved.

Indeed, each piece has its own unique identity, much like the Dhokra Damar tribes, where it all began. And, much like the artisans who continue to persevere to ensure the craft thrives; Dokra showpieces have truly proved to be an art across all ages! After all, imagine if you will the history it has witnessed!
